Oxford Contemporary Music (OCM) and Pegasus Theatre are seeking a Music Workshop Leader to deliver a music makers course for 11-15 year olds this Autumn at Pegasus Theatre.

The brief

The Music Makers course will work with up to 20 students on a weekly basis every Thursday starting from Thursday September 14th 2017 – Thursday 30th November 2017, session times will be 5pm-6:30pm.

To deliver the project we are looking for a practitioner who is inclusive in their delivery, which means they can plan and deliver sessions, which do not require students to have any previous musical experience and regardless of a students learning ability everyone can take part and enjoy the course. Sessions should be fun, engaging and interactive.

We want to recruit a practitioner who can take students through various realms of music making from song writing, music production and recording, to making music with traditional and non-traditional instruments.

The selected practitioner will be required to design an exciting and engaging 10 week music-making  course from scratch with support from OCM and Pegasus Theatre. If this course is successful we will seek to continue to run the course in the spring and summer of 2018.

We would be keen to hear from practitioners from all disciplines and genres in music making and sound recording. We can provide computers (Macs), instruments and some sound recording equipment, which can be used for your sessions, however you are more than welcome to bring your own.

We would like to hear from Practitioners who have:

  • A high standard in their practice.
  • A creative and flexible approach to delivering workshop sessions.
  • Experience in working with young people aged 11-15 on informal music making projects and courses in and outside of school.
  • Ideas for developing a music makers course, and can ensure that they will be accessible for any participants wishing to take part.
  • An ability to facilitate the creativity of others and encourage them to try something new, take creative risks and experiment.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with young people and staff to develop the programme and projects they work on.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with participants in the project.
  • Experience or an ability to reflect, revise, encourage and enable others to do the same.
  • An enhanced DBS disclosure or is willing to obtain this.

If you wish to apply for this opportunity then please tell us in no more than one side of A4:

  • Who you are and what your artistic background in music and/or sound is and your contact details
  • Why you would like to be involved in the project.
  • How you feel you meet the criteria above.
  • An outline plan for 3 music-making sessions.
  • An example of a recent project involving children or young people you have delivered as a practitioner, and include what you have learnt from that project.
  • Reference details from two recent projects.

Please note we cannot accept CV’s.

The fee for this work will be £45 per session, 10 sessions for delivery plus 1 session for feedback and 1 session for end of term sharing event. There is an additional flat rate fee of £60 included for planning. The total fee for services is £600.

The deadline to apply is 09:00 am Thursday 3rd August 2017. We will be inviting successful candidates to interview on Thursday 17th August 2017.
