OCM once again co-promotes this unmissable annual festival. It opens with an 8 metre loom and fungal biosonification, and continues over two more evenings with art-core no-wave, guttural voice, instruments crafted from native UK tree branches, and virtuosic sheng.

The third and final evening, curated by SARU, consists of performances by Peiriant, Thorn Wych, Li-Chin Li, and Zhou Mengting.

“An absolute treasure of a festival that Oxford’s more adventurous music lovers – and those with even a passing interest in the sounds of the world around us – should hold close to their hearts” Nightshift

Tickets are Pay What You Can and will be available on the door (no advance bookings).

Peiriant

Peiriant summon an assured degree of mystique which can lull and intrigue in equal measure. The duo deploy a sequence of haunting soundscapes which can attract the curiosity of those familiar with their work and new listeners alike. Coupling a sonorous, often unnerving, enlistment of the violin with a flexible command of the electric guitar, the pair unfold into an unvarnished sense of avant-garde artistry.

Peiriant are a duo of violin and electric guitar, who play with melody and tonality to create atmosphere and soundscape. Electronic equipment, samples and found objects also add to their semi-improvised pieces, which are spun from grounded ideas.

Rose and Dan Linn-Pearl draw from their foundation in folk and classical training in addition to post-rock, minimalism and sound art to weave experimental music that is anchored in the Welsh landscape.

They will perform pieces from their recent critically acclaimed album PLANT and as well as tracks from DYCHWELYD, a record which awarded them The Guardian’s ‘Folk Album of the month’.

Thorn Wych

Thorn Wych is a musician based in Lancashire, who crafts her own instruments from native UK tree branches. Her pieces feature bowed string instruments, flutes and percussion, which she manipulates through pitch-bending glitches and delay pedals to create strange atavistic hymns that evoke memories of a world existing beyond the boundaries of the material realm.

“Distorted drones undulate beneath entrancing incantations as though primeval spells are being conjured and future pathways moulded.” Foxy Digitalis

“Sounds and song that pull post-industrial and traditional music into a ghostly, mesmerising fog that’s wholly unique ” World of Echo

Li-Chin Li + Zhuo Men

Working from their shared interest in space as a performative medium, Zhuo Mengting and Li-Chin Li develop a live system shaped by breath, airflow and relational movement.

A suspended system of strings and lightweight elements set up by Zhuo becomes both instrument and architecture, sensitive to the performers’ presence yet never fully predictable. As Li moves through the space with the Sheng, invisible currents of air and vibration produce shifting relationships between body, object and sound.

Li-Chin Li is a Taiwanese sheng soloist, composer, and interdisciplinary performer based in Paris. She works across contemporary music, improvisation, and experimental performance. Her practice combines virtuosic sheng performance, improvised composition, and physical movement, using site-responsive approaches to expand the expressive possibilities of the instrument.

In recent years, her work has been featured in international professional media, including Germany’s neue musikzeitung(nmz), Tagesspiegel, the classical and jazz magazine RONDO, Digital in Berlin, Italy’s Il Resto del Carlino and Gazzetta di Modena, and Radio France Internationale (RFI). In 2026, Cadence Magazine – The Independent Journal of Creative Improvised Music, a U.S. publication dedicated to creative and improvised music, also published a review of her performance, highlighting her work in the field of improvisation.

She has also been invited to participate in international artistic residencies and research programs at institutions including the Royaumont Foundation, IRCAM – Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, GMEM – Centre National de Création Musicale, Cité internationale des arts in Paris, the French National Centre for Dance (CN D), Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) in Sweden, and the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) in New York.

Zhuo Mengting (b. Guangzhou, China, 1990) searches for liveness through what comes between. Across live art, participatory installations, concerts and relational curation, she composes situations where distance, silence and partial access become conditions for encounter.

With a background in literature, critical theory and indie music, she works as much with language as with what remains unspoken. She studied Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she is now based, and has presented work across the UK, Europe and East Asia, including Whitechapel Gallery, South London Gallery, Cafe OTO, Tai Kwun Contemporary, BY ART MATTERS, MAO Torino and the Prague Quadrennial.
