A Century of Sounds: Live took place on Friday 27th February 2026. A Century of Sounds is a unique project bringing together the Pitt Rivers Museum’s extraordinary sound collections with 100 artists from around the world to create a new way of experiencing these incredible, diverse recordings. It is a partnership between Cities and Memory and the Pitt Rivers Museum, inviting listeners to explore a century of incredible recordings from the museum’s collections in brand new ways. https://citiesandmemory.com/century-s…

This recording is from the live event that launched the online project, in collaboration with OCM. Six live performances reimagine different ethnographic sounds from the museum’s sound collections, ranging from conch shell performances in Vanuatu to traditional music from Afghanistan, South Sudanese warrior songs and wedding music from the Himalayas.

Live performances come from: Cristina Italiani, Tim Saul, Masako Yokouchi, Kid Kin, Cities and Memory, and Simon Holmes.

The full project contains 100 reimagined compositions based on 100 recordings from the Pitt Rivers Museum’s sound collections – explore the full project at https://www.citiesandmemory.com/centu…
